That’s why coconut is exported in FCL and not LCL most of the times or until it is done by Air. Taking care of moisture in coconut exports becomes crucial. Generally to prevent shrinkage in coconut, Moisture content of 80-90% is maintained in the container used for coconut exports.

What happens now if moisture exists in coconut exports?

coconut releases vapor from the remaining parts of the dehusked coconut. These vapors get collected in the container and prone to react with salt or sugar in the container to create the mold that intact penetrates deep to the edible content of the coconut and degrade the nutrition and taste & causing diseases to the coconut.

Dehusked Coconut should be prevented from the exposure of direct heat by any means & Proper ventilation must be maintained in coconut exports in order to prevent the coconut from losing out the nutrient. Coconut exporters should maintain air exchange rate or ACH for an optimum of six ACH and maintain a temperature from 5-25 Degree Celsius.

Gases & Contamination:
Coconut, being a sensitive fruit, are prone to absorb, react to odors and chemicals from the atmosphere. It can easily absorb dust, dirt & oil leading to contamination of the coconut. Coconut also emits Carbon-Di-Oxide affecting the nutrition of coconut so oxygen should be enabled in the container to keep the CO2 at the optimum.

Physical influences and vibration of the dehusked coconut will lead to physical damages leading to diseases like mold and infestations. Coconut has to be transported as quick as possible to retain the nutrient value as there would be an enormous shortage of nutrient from the parent plant.
